UGC NET Preparation Guide: Become an Assistant Professor or JRF Scholar

If you dream of a career in academia - teaching in a college or pursuing funded research - the UGC NET (National Eligibility Test) is your gateway. Conducted by NTA twice a year, it certifies you for Assistant Professorship and, for top rankers, the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) which pays ₹37,000/month (plus HRA) for research.

1. Eligibility and Exam Structure

• Eligibility: Master's degree with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories). Final-year PG students can also apply. Under NEP, 4-year UG graduates with 75% can appear directly for JRF/PhD admission.
• Age limit: 30 years for JRF (with relaxations); no age limit for Assistant Professor.

4. A 4-Month Preparation Plan

• Month 1: Finish Paper 1 syllabus + 2 units of Paper 2 weekly.
