Geography questions are rarely pure recall — they test whether you understand a mechanism (why a monsoon behaves as it does, why a region is seismically active) well enough to place it correctly on a map. Physical geography supplies the 'why'; Indian geography supplies the resource/river/soil facts UPSC quotes almost every year; world geography is smaller but near-certain, usually pegged to a country in the news.
