Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 2026
Tuition.in is an Indian education platform combining a verified directory of tutors and institutions, a course marketplace, an AI learning toolkit, and an open curriculum content library. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use any of these surfaces, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights you have over it.
1. Who this policy applies to
This policy applies to four groups of users:
- Students and parents — using Tuition.in to discover tutors and institutions, enrol in courses, use AI study tools, or access learning content.
- Tutors — individual educators with a profile and (optionally) published courses on Tuition.in.
- Institutions — schools, colleges, coaching centres, and preschools with a claimed profile and (optionally) published courses on Tuition.in.
- Visitors — anyone browsing the site without an account.
2. Information we collect
Account & profile data
Name, email, phone number, WhatsApp number, city, state, profile photo, and (for tutors) qualifications, subjects, experience, hourly rate, teaching modes, and verification documents.
Institution data
Institution name, address, pincode, contact details, website, established year, board / affiliation, courses offered, exams covered, subjects, facilities, achievements, fees range, faculty count, student strength, and logo / cover / gallery photos.
Course enrolment & payment data
Enrolment records, attendance, assignment submissions, certificates earned, refund requests, and payment references. Payment card details are handled by our payment processor and are not stored on Tuition.in's servers.
Messaging & inquiries
Messages, demo-booking enquiries, and conversations exchanged between students and tutors / institutions through the platform's inbox.
AI tool usage
Inputs to and outputs from AI tools (doubt solver, study notes, quiz generator, rubric generator, OCR grading, writing coach, etc.) — including question text, uploaded images / documents, and generated responses. We process these to deliver the tool, improve quality, and prevent abuse.
Learning activity
Flashcard reviews, mock-test attempts, practice problem attempts, diagnostic and adaptive-test results, streaks, XP, and goal tracking.
Automatically collected data
IP address, browser, operating system, device identifiers, referring URL, pages visited, session timing, and cookies. Used for security, analytics, and to keep you logged in.
3. How we use your information
- To create and manage your account and verify your identity for the role you signed up for.
- To run the verification pipeline for tutors and institutions before profiles go live, and to support manual editorial review.
- To deliver course enrolments, run live and recorded classes, process payments, and handle refunds.
- To deliver AI tools — including processing inputs through our AI providers — and to prevent misuse.
- To route messages and demo enquiries between students and educators.
- To improve the platform: analytics on which features are used, A/B tests, and feedback from real usage.
- To send service notifications (verification updates, enrolment confirmations, refunds, class reminders) and, with consent, marketing communications.
- To comply with applicable Indian law, respond to lawful requests, and enforce our Terms of Service.
4. AI processing
Some features rely on third-party AI providers (large language models and vision models). When you use an AI tool, the content you submit may be sent to these providers strictly to generate a response and is processed under their published privacy and data-use terms. We do not allow these providers to use your inputs to train their public models. AI-generated text shown on institution profile pages (description, tagline, FAQs) is grounded on the institution's own submitted fields and, when provided, a one-time fetch of their public website.
5. Sharing & disclosure
- With other users — your public profile fields are visible to other users. Messages you send are visible to the recipient.
- With service providers — payment processors, email and SMS providers, cloud hosting, analytics, and AI providers, strictly to deliver the platform.
- For legal reasons — when required by law, regulation, court order, or to protect rights, safety, and platform integrity.
- Business transfers — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to affected users.
We do not sell personal data.
6. Cookies & tracking
We use first-party cookies for authentication and core functionality, and limited analytics cookies to understand aggregate usage. You can clear cookies from your browser at any time; some features (like staying logged in) will stop working until you sign in again.
7. Data retention
We retain account, profile, course, and transaction data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, tax, and audit obligations. Messaging history is retained for the life of the conversation thread. AI tool inputs and outputs are retained for service quality, abuse prevention, and your own history; you can request deletion at any time (see Your Rights).
8. Your rights
Under applicable Indian law (including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023) you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct or update inaccurate data.
- Withdraw consent and request erasure of your account and associated data (subject to legal retention duties).
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Nominate a representative to exercise these rights in case of incapacity.
- Lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Board of India.
Reach us at the address below to exercise any of these rights.
9. Children
Tuition.in is used by students of varying ages. Where a user is a minor under Indian law, a parent or legal guardian is expected to set up and supervise the account and consent to the processing described in this policy. Educator accounts (tutor / institution) are intended for adults.
10. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards (HTTPS in transit, encrypted secrets at rest, role-based access, audit logging) appropriate to the sensitivity of the data. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users in line with legal requirements if a personal-data breach occurs.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the platform evolves. Material changes will be highlighted on this page with a refreshed "Last Updated" date.
