Books

'What worlds of wonder are our books! As one opens them and looks, new people and new things appear.'

1. About the Poem

Poet: Eleanor Farjeon Theme: Reading, imagination, adventure through books

The poet celebrates the MAGIC of books. When you OPEN a book, you enter a NEW world. You meet new PEOPLE, visit new PLACES, and go on wonderful ADVENTURES — all without leaving your chair.

2. The Poem

What worlds of wonder are our books! As one opens them and looks, New people and new things appear, Stories from far and near.

You can travel lands and seas, Ride on elephants, feel the breeze, Meet a princess or a bear, Fly through castles in the air.

You can be a hero bold, Or find a treasure chest of gold. All the magic you can hold Is waiting in the books you hold.

So open a book and journey far, To wherever you wish you are. For in a book you'll always find, A world of wonder for your mind.
