The Naughty Boy & Pinocchio
Part 1 — The Naughty Boy (Poem by John Keats)
"There was a naughty boy, / A naughty boy was he. / He ran away to Scotland, / The people there to see."
About the Poem
A NAUGHTY boy runs away to SCOTLAND — far from home. He wants to see new people and new things. But when he gets there, he discovers: the trees are the same, the doors are the same, the people are the same — KIND and WARM, just like at home. He LEARNT that the world is not so different after all — and there's no place like HOME.
What the Poem Teaches
- Curiosity is natural — but running away is SILLY
- People everywhere are KIND — the world is not scary
- Home is where you belong
Part 2 — Pinocchio (Adapted from Carlo Collodi)
The Story
An old woodcarver named GEPPETTO makes a WOODEN PUPPET and names him PINOCCHIO. Geppetto loves Pinocchio like a son. But Pinocchio is NAUGHTY — he runs away, gets into trouble, skips school to join a puppet show.
The Magic Nose: A FAIRY grants Pinocchio a special gift — and a WARNING. Every time Pinocchio tells a LIE, his nose will GROW LONGER. And so it does.
Pinocchio's Adventures:
- He promises to go to school — but follows a boy to 'TOYLAND' instead
- In Toyland, naughty boys turn into DONKEYS
- Pinocchio nearly becomes a donkey — but escapes
- He goes searching for Geppetto — who was SWALLOWED BY A WHALE while searching for Pinocchio
- Pinocchio finds Geppetto INSIDE THE WHALE and helps him escape
The Transformation: Pinocchio has learnt his lesson. He has been brave. He has cared for his father. He has stopped telling lies. The fairy turns him into a REAL BOY.
What We Learn
- LYING is wrong — and the consequences catch up with you
- LOVE your parents — they sacrifice everything for you
- It's never too late to CHANGE and become a better person
Fun Activity
Pinocchio's nose grew when he lied. Draw Pinocchio with a VERY long nose and write: 'I will always tell the TRUTH because...'
